PROFESSIONAL FOCUS
Dr. Chow’s clinical expertise is in diagnosing and managing spinal disorders (neck and back pain), lumbar spinal stenosis, inflammatory back pain, and chronic noncancer pain. His research interests include clinical epidemiology, management of spinal disorders, chronic noncancer pain and opioid use disorder in patients with chronic noncancer pain.
Dr. Chow is also an Advanced Practice Provider with Sunnybrook’s Rapid Access Clinic for Low Back Pain (RAC LBP). The purpose of this triage clinic is to determine whether patients with low back pain are surgical candidates or not. In this clinic, Dr. Chow will provide an assessment, diagnosis, and education for your low back pain, as well as exercise prescription, but not therapy. If necessary, he will refer you for chiropractic or physiotherapy treatment. If he believes that other interventions (i.e. spinal joint or nerve root injections) or a specialist consult (i.e. rheumatologist or spine surgeon) are required, he will refer you to the appropriate specialist.
**Note that your physician or nurse practitioner must refer you to the RAC LBP - you cannot self-refer to this service.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Chow is an Instructor/Primary Resource Clinician at CMCC where he supervises fourth year interns in the teaching clinics, and a Research Associate at Ontario Tech University’s Centre for Disability Prevention and Research.
